Greetings. As the principal marketing strategist, business writer, social media/PR driver and website innovator for my clients, I bring more than twenty-five years of experience in marketing communications to my clients … with a focus on professional service firms in law, accounting, finance and technology.
I provide strategic advice and action to a wide range of professionals: to build a marketing-centric culture, to improve communications with clients and prospects and COIs, to generate awareness in the community via public relations and social media, and to garner new business. My clients include professionals in solo practices, partnerships and mid-sized firms throughout New England and outside the region in Michigan, Kentucky and Indiana.
Awards & Accomplishments
In February of 2023, I was honored as the “winner” for Best Public Relations and, in 2021, I was also honored in the two (2) categories of Best Marketing and Best Public Relations … all in the Reader Rankings survey by Rhode Island Lawyers Weekly. I previously was recognized in 2019.
Also, in my stash of recent accolades, I received — for the second time — Constant Contact’s “All Star” award for accomplishing measurable business objectives for my clients via e-mail marketing.
Education & Experience
A native Rhode Islander, I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a specialization in marketing from the University of Vermont. I am a graduate of the Lincoln School in Providence.
Prior to launching Lavin Marketing Communications in 2006, I held in-house positions as the Director of Marketing and Client Services for the law firm of Tillinghast, Licht (and its predecessor firms) in Providence and Boston for thirteen years, and for the CPA firm of Sansiveri, Kimball for three years. Way back when, I served as the first full-time Director of Communications for the Rhode Island Bar Association.
Speaking & Writing
I am a frequent writer on issues at the intersection of marketing and business development for Providence Business News, The Rhode Island Small Business Journal, Rhode Island Lawyers Weekly and Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly. (Check out my blog for some of my articles.)
In April 2020, I co-led a live, (Covid-influenced) webinar with Laurie White, president of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, on the topic of “Communication in an Information Overloaded World.” In 2021, we joined forces again to discuss how to “Get The Most Value From Your Outsourced Vendors & Creative Professionals.”
I have presented programs on topics that span business writing, social media, networking, and business development to numerous professionals groups including the American Society of Women Accountants, the Rhode Island Bar Association Annual Meeting, the National Association of Fundraising Executives, and the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce.
Community
I am currently Vice President of the Business Value Forum, a non-profit, non-membership organization offering business owners, organizational leaders and advisors educational programs to develop, grow and sustain an organization’s value.
I was active for almost six years as a board member and board chair for the East Bay Center (formerly East Bay Mental Health), a comprehensive community mental health center. I was a member and chair of the Communications Committee for Parents at La Salle Academy. I was an inaugural member of the “Office Hours” advisory group for the Rhode Island Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
I live in Rumford, Rhode Island, with my husband Dr. Thomas J. Lavin, III … and our spunky little rescue dog Stella. We have two millennial-age daughters, making their way in the world with a heightened awareness of writing and grammar.
